Steam ruins the modding community by segmenting it as a DRM method. Steam has technically grown to big and one decision can drastically effect the community of a game.ġ. But this isnt their only use it also great for non-steam games.
It use originated in pirating community as a way to bypass the workshop DRM practice steam took. Sure this is technically considered pirating. Getting steam mods for most games is as easy as copying and pasting the url into a steam workshop downloader.
